| Question |
I keep getting the physical side of things wrong, like describing rivers; valleys etc. Are there any helpful ways I can remember the differences of landscapes? Any advice will do!

| Answer |
When your are being asked to describe PHYSICAL features you should only refer to physical characteristics like:
1. The width of the river or valley.
2. say if the river is straight or meandering
3. say if you can what stage the river is in " upper, middle or lower " you decide this by the shape of the valley. If the valley is narrow it will be in the upper course while if the valley is wide and contours far apart and you see large meanders then it will be the lower course.
4. describe the features you can see eg waterfall, meander, ox-bow lake, and flood plain " remember the features you see will help to decide the stage of the river.
Never ever describe Human features like roads, houses, settlements in this sort of question.
I would suggest you look over the BBC web site it has information on Ordnance Survey, Rivers and their valleys and Glaciated landscapes.

I you can get a copy of the TV Bitesize programmes they will also help you.
Further getting a copy of the BBC Standard Grade Geography Revision Book will give you access to a number of chapters which will help you in answering questions on physical landscapes.
