Ion-electron
equations are in the SQA data book , p.7- The equations are written
as reductions (gain of electrons ) but can be reversed to give the
oxidation equation. The substance reacting must always be on the
left of the arrow:-
Eg If chlorine is reacting the equation is Cl2 + 2 e
2Cl-
If the chloride ion is reacting, reverse the equation 2Cl-
Cl2
+ 2e
If the copper(11) ion is reacting the equation is Cu2+
+ 2e

If copper metal is reacting, reverse the equation Cu
