Welcome to the GCSE Bitesize Site Guide

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about the most popular revision website in Scotland.

What is Standard Grade Bitesize?

Bitesize Revision combines TV and web site exercises to give you extra revision support.

Our aim is to produce manageable "bitesize" pages on key topics, concentrating on material which students find particularly difficult. The material is written by examiners and teachers and reflects key areas of the examination syllabus.

What is on the website?

Each subject in Standard Grade Bitesize is made up of Revision Bites and Test Bites. The Revision Bites focus on individual key concepts, broken down into manageable chunks. You can work through the whole Revision Bite or just the sections you need work on. Then test yourself with our interactive quizzes to see how you're doing. Alternatively, you can start with a Test Bite to check which areas you need to work on most.

How do I use the website?

The menu bar on the left side of every screen has five main links:
  • Home - takes you to the main menu for your Bitesize meal where the subjects are listed. From the main menu on the home page, click on the subject you want to revise. That takes you to the topic menu for the subject. Clicking on a topic takes you to a list of the Revision Bites and Test Bites for the topic. Click on Revision or, if you feel like a challenge, a Test.
  • Site Guide - an explanation of this website and its facilities (the page you're on now).
  • Other Stuff - contains a variety of activities and bits of extra help for your revision. In there you'll find Hot Links. These are links to external websites we've found which might give you more information on a particular subject. Survival Kit is a collection of short interviews and articles on how you can deal with organising your revision and the stress of exams. Take a Break has things to do when you take time out from revising.
  • Ask A Teacher - an archive of questions asked by students and answered by our team of teachers.

When are the TV programmes on?

Standard Grade Bitesize TV programmes are no longer being transmitted.

The programmes are being cut up into clips and will be found in our Learning Zone Scotland site.

Is this everything I need to know for my exam?

Don't do all your revision from any one resource, BBC or not. Because we provide material for all students to use, there will invariably be individual things that are not covered in Bitesize that could show up on the exam. And let's face it, if we covered absolutely every question that comes up on the exam, we'd be giving you the answers! We recommend that you talk with your teacher about what you should be revising. They know you and your work, and are the experts on their individual subjects.
