Archive - History - The road to war - A Question from Emma

Student Name Emma
Question Why did Hitler and Mussolini join forces when they didn't like each other?
Answer

Dear Emma

Hitler and Mussolini were leaders of Fascist-style parties in countries which had possible enemies on both sides. It was natural that they should come together against the Soviet Union and against the countries they both felt had let down their nations at Versailles (Germany had been punished and Italy did not gain territory it had expected).
