Robert Fergusson - ‘Auld Reikie, A Poem’
The poetic forefather of Burns, Robert Fergusson led the way in writing about Scotland in the Scots language. His depiction of a day in the life of Edinburgh in ‘Auld Reikie’ is typical of his warts-and-all style where every detail, no matter how beautiful or how gruesome, becomes the subject matter of wonderfully colourful poetry.
