A terrible vision of the dark despair that descended on our cities during the industrial revolution. Whilst many Victorian writers shied away from the harsh realities of industrial society and took refuge in romance and fantasy, Thomson used the depravities of the industrial working classes as the base material for this dirge for the human race.
