Irvine Welsh – Trainspotting
A book, or rather a cultural phenomenon, that changed a lot of heads when it was published in 1993, not least because it is written in Scots and still managed to sell well outside of Scotland, and then go on to be adapted for the big screen, which in turn spawned a successful album. This was the platform from which Irvine Welsh became a literary superstar, and a kind of Bard of contemporary counter-culture.
