Watch and Listen 30s
By 1932, radio coverage was available to 80% of the population and BBC Scotland catered for all tastes. News, plays, gaelic lessons, classical music, European football and drama were just some of the programmes on offer. By 1938, 56% of the population held wireless licences. In 1938, the first precautionary air-raid warning was aired and in September 1939, two days before war was declared, we merged our services with the BBC Home Service. This continued until 1945.
