By 1932, radio coverage was available to
80% of the population and BBC Scotland catered for all tastes. News, plays,
gaelic lessons, classical music, European football and drama were just
some of the programmes on offer. By 1938, 56% of the population held wireless
licences. In 1938, the first precautionary air-raid warning was aired
and in September 1939, two days before war was declared, we merged our
services with the BBC Home Service. This continued until 1945.
