The Academy is closed for another year and the scissors, curlers and straighteners have been stashed away. It’s been a rollercoaster ride, take a look back at some of the best moments.
Week one in The Academy was a fun-filled, hair and money raising feat not to forget. The trainees were thrown in at the deep end and Lee was ready to be the ‘oars in their ride down a rocky river’ though quite how a bunch of ‘swans’ are supposed to row a boat is anyone’s guess.
Infamous cuts from week one include Lucinda’s first attempt on good sport Tom who ended up with something that resembled a bad 80’s hair day, Steve Strange’s ‘Kill Mary’ cut which comprised of one large spike protruding from the back of the female client’s head making her look a bit like a Teletubby gone wrong, Jeff’s masterful asymmetrical chop and Shana’s own leopard print undercut.
Week Two, the trainees received more gold scissors than Midas ever got his mitts on and the race for Celebrity Hairdresser of the Year 2008 was on. It was Jessica Jane-Clement’s first week and it looked like she could already be a contender, impressing Lee with her first cut. Jeff revelled in his King Swan status making himself a graffiti emblazoned t-shirt.
It was all about teamwork in week two kicking off with the trainees being paired up and tied together with dog leads! Duo, Shana and Stedman were left reeling when they completed a haircut that the client was so unhappy with she cried. Poor Shana couldn’t take it and ended up shedding a few tears herself but she did earn herself a pair of golden scissors for dealing with the situation well.
The trainees were up against some stiff competition when Lee brought in a bunch of drama school children with an average age of 13 and absolutely no hairdressing experience. Despite a strong start the trainees were eventually beaten by the kids in a frantic 10 minute cutting frenzy.
Steve’s appearances in The Academy were up and down like a yo-yo as was his relationship with Lee who eventually got to the end of his tether and insisted Steve has a doctor’s certificate if he wants to get out of haircutting.
Steve returned to The Academy and demanded applause but it was clear he was grating on Jeff and he let him know. Election fever gripped The Academy and Kym was president for the day. A few famous faces graced The Academy this week, ex-X Factor contestant Chico, David Gest, Jodie Marsh and George Lamb’s dad, Eastenders actor Larry!
Alas Mr Strange's return would not be for long as his hair allergy took hold it became clear he would not return for the final week of The Academy. The trainees soldiered on however and it looked set to be an amazing creative finale.
The final week and Scott was chosen as finalist by the other trainees, ecstatic he did a victory dance breaking out ‘the caterpillar’ on The Academy floor. When the trainees told Lee of their decision he was shocked and Scott became determined to do good work.
The fun continued when Zammo, Clair and their client Dominic collapsed into fits of giggles when they were giving him a back, sack and crack wax, so much so that Zammo had to temporarily leave the room.
Time became an issue in The Academy when the trainees kept running over and Lee had to crack down on them. Jeff and Scott where particularly unhappy and Scott had a ‘toys out of the pram’ moment.
Before long it was time for the finale but not before Lee dropped the bombshell that Nicky Clarke would be eliminating one finalist before the show. When it came down to it Nicky thought Sabrina and Jeff were a touch above Scott and he was eliminated leaving him ‘gutted’.And all the trainees put on a great show and had lots of fun on the catwalk choreographed by Stedman.
Jeff and Sabrina had a closely fought cut off and Jeff was really talking the talk whilst Sabrina took a more subdued approach. Eventually though, it was Sabrina who came out on top and she was crowned Celebrity Scissorhands Hairdresser of the Year 2008.

This morning the trainees who are up for Celebrity Scissorhands Hairdresser of the Year were in for a surprise, a special guest and a twist to the finale proceedings.
Sabrina was severely tested today by one her clients, Kelly, who was being difficult about having her hair cut. But little did she know there was more to her client than met the eye.
