  • the key features and characteristics of the periods, societies or situations studied

Learning Objectives
 
Pupils should learn:
  • how the war in the air and the war at sea played a crucial role in determining the outcome of the war
  • how to assess the significance of key events
 
Suggested Teaching Activities
 
Lesson 1:
  • Pupils research the war at sea and debate its significance
Lesson 2:
  • Pupils research the changes that took place in the way that the war was fought in the air
  • Discuss whether aeroplanes were more important than airships during the war
Lesson 3:
  • Pupils work in groups of three to compare the importance of the war at sea and in the air to the war on land.
  • Discuss conclusions reached as a whole class.
 
Extension Activities
 
Pupils produce a report for the government on the advantages and disadvantages of using aeroplanes and airships to fight the war in the air
