The outstanding feature of the situation is the proposal made by Sir Edward Grey that the four Great Powers not immediately interested in the Austro-Servian conflict should confer together with the object of inducing Russia and Austria-Hungary to suspend military operations while the four Powers endeavour to arrange a settlement.
Sir Edward Grey announded in the House of Commons yesterday that he had instructed his Majesty's Ambassadors in Paris, Berlin, and Rome to ask the Governments to which they are accredited whether they would be willing to arrange that the French, German and Italian Ambassadors in London should meet him in conference in London to endeavour to find a means of arranging the present difficulties.
Italy is understood to have accepted the British proposal. France has also accepted it. The reply of Germany is outstanding.
