Educated girls are showing their feelings in different ways. Some are wearing their smartest clothes and getting a collecting box from the Red Cross headquarters and parading the streets, or making house to house collections for the Red Cross funds. Some wave handkerchiefs from their balconies whenever Territorials march past. Many are wild to learn Red Cross First Aid and above all, bandaging, which is a thing they cannot possibly do except in civil and family life... Girls say they are determined to get to the front somehow; when they find that impossible, they want to be called up for some nursing help in England. It is a perfect mania with the untrained...

Heard that the Sherwood Foresters stationed in Bombay were prepared for any native rising. They were guarding the docks and their maxims were all in place. This does not tally with Lord Crewe's speech in the House of Lords, counting upon the extreme loyalty of all sections in India and the intense desire of the native regiments to fight beside the British troops.
