Observer

Thursday, August 27

Rate of age for second army of 100,000 raised from 19-35. Heard that recruiting in Cardiff, Swansea and Wales is good. Crowds of enlisted men seen at the station waiting to entrain.

Feeling of discontent among certain civilian sections of the public that so little war news is published... no understanding of the time it takes to get out full casualty-lists, or the risk of publishing news that might help the enemy. A sort of suspicious selfishness.
