Worksheet 1: Viking Explorer Game
KS2 History: NC 2a,
In this game, children travel on a Viking adventure from Norway to Jerusalem.
  • Print off and children play in pairs or small groups
  • Enlarge and delete words in each circle. Children replace with suitable words using Viking knowledge.
  • Give children a map of Britain. Ask them to make a similar game for around Britain.
Worksheet 2: Rune Stones
KS2 History: NC 2a, 2b
Teaches children about The Viking alphabet.
  • Can be used to investigate everyday Viking life.

  • Make enlarged copies of the runes and display around classroom.

  • Children write their names using the rune alphabet.
  • Write short messages to each other on postcards or pretend stones.
  • Paint life sized drawings of the Viking Gods and write their names using Viking runes.
Worksheet 3: A day in the life of a Viking
KS2 History: NC 2b
Worksheet looks at how Viking children would have spent their day.
  • Enlarge onto A3 and complete as class.
  • Make comparisons with own life line. Write 3 comparative sentences.
  • What do we have today that Vikings didn't?
  • Write a day's diary entry explaining tasks that were done and why.
Worksheet 4: Make your own Timeline
KS2 History: NC 1a,1b
Children rearrange events in Chronological order.
  • Enlarge onto A3 or larger and hand out; as a class or group put events into order
  • Have dates on pieces of paper to add to timeline.

  • Where would we be on Timeline?
  • What do you think happened before the Timeline started?
  • Discuss with class what AD and BC mean.

  • Children create own timeline for events in their life.
