Extension Work

There are many ways to navigate this website. This flexibility provides opportunities for extension work.
  • From the City Life section, compare each Belfast or Mexico City child's response to question 1, 2, etc.

  • From the Fact File's Past & Future section, compare the adults' responses to the questions.

  • Identify and explore particular issues raised by the adults.

  • Identify and explore issues about pupils' own local area.

  • Visit  http://www2.drdni.gov.uk/roads/traffic/Cameras.htm  (download Windows' free media player if necessary) and view Belfast from 4 traffic cameras.

  • Compare Belfast with Mexico City and children's own local area.

  • Explore the Fact File.

  • Create a 'City Tour' for pupils' own local area.

  • Find out about pupils' own capital city and make a website/story board about it.

Beyond the website, opportunities for extension work include:
  • Noting events happening in cities around the world - sporting, natural disasters, political, etc. - possibly using QCA unit 16: 'What's in the news?' in a global sense.

  • Recording (with photographs, postcards, other artefacts) and reporting on their own visits to cities, including answering the questions: What's it like to visit this city?; What does/did it feel like? (including the sights, sounds, tastes and smells); What would it be like to live here?

  • Encouraging children to make (capital) city scrapbooks.
