Religion or science?

Belle started the topic, 'Religion or Science' and believes that 'everything is done for and meant by God'. Octoparrot asks how we can explain diseases such as cancer if God is responsible for everything and the debate's still raging on the messageboard...

There's lots of information about this subject in the thread already, but we thought you might want a quick synopsis.

Your thoughts

Here's what some message board users had to say about the issue:

  • "Do you support religion or science or both like me, and why?"
  • "Some believers think that God created the science."
  • "Do you believe there can ever be evidence of a God, or of the origins of the universe?"
  • "I think there is like a boundary, where science and religion is separated. first you look for an answer through science and if it doesn't work then it get put in to religion."

Richard Dawkins

Richard Dawkins - a leading scientist and outspoken athiest recently wrote a book called The God Delusion which has sparked a lot of debate about religion and science, as covered on the BBC Newsnight site. Dawkins claims that "If this book works as I intend, religious readers who open it will be atheists when they put it down.” In the book, he sets out to attack God "in all his forms".

Religions

Different religions offer various reasons why they think that people should believe in one or more gods, but there's far too much to put here. If you'd like to find out more about religions, have a look at the BBC Religion website.
