Are single-sex schools a good idea?

Many people have a choice about whether to go to a mixed school or one with all boys or all girls, but which is better?

Find out more about same sex-schools

Does it make a difference?

Some people think that going to a same-sex school means that you get better grades, but evidence of this is not very clear. There is some evidence to show that girls in single-sex schools get better grades, and some people believe that everyone does better in single sex schools. However, some studies have shown that single sex schools make no difference to performance.

Your thoughts

Here's what some message board users had to say about the issue:

  • "...they were standing in the corridor 'kissing' before the bell went. It's so stupid. I wouldn't mind going to a single sex school..."
  • "what I dont understand is that in the real world the opposite sex aren't seperated from each other so why are we at school?"

The adults have been debating the pros and cons of mixed schools and they certainly don't seem to agree on what's best.
