Responsible for:
Entertaining live audiences by playing music, either as part of a band, an orchestra, an ensemble or as a soloist. They give concerts, record albums, play live at parties and special events such as weddings and birthdays. They provide music for a wide range of tastes and age groups.
Salary:
Nothing to £100,000+ per year
Working hours:
Musicians often work irregular hours, including nights and weekends. They also need to put in at least 3 or 4 hours of practice a day and attend rehearsals.
Qualifications:
There is no fixed career path or compulsory training. Qualifications in Music or Performance can be useful. Talent and experience are both essential as is a lot of practice.
General requirements:
A love of music, creativity, sensitivity are all indispensable. If you are in a band, orchestra or ensemble then that ability to work in a team is also useful. Needless to say total dedication as well as determination are key qualities for any musician who wishes to succeed.
