Find out what is in store for Star and Hutch in each of the television and radio programmes.

BBC 2

Setting off in the Starship, Star and Hutch visit lots of planets and find out about different kinds of stories. They visit Dave and the Penguins at the South Pole, and drop in on planet Zoofaria which is all in rhyme. The programmes develop and clarify aspects of punctuation, sentence control, spelling and comprehension.
Programme 1 Using sentences
Star, Sky and Hutch set off on a mission in which Goldilocks writes to the three bears, and Dave sends a postcard home to his Mum. On planet Zoofaria, Bert is being quirky, and Sky discovers a problem with the sentence constructor.
Programme 2 Moods and Feelings
The mission for Star, Sky and Hutch is to find out all about how and why writing can make you feel things and they hear the story of "The Unicorn in the Park". The penguins show Dave about exclamation marks and, on Planet Zoofaria, the meerkats pop up to peer.
Programme 3 Finding out
Sky is very concerned; the Starship has sprung a fact leak and Star and Hutch urgently need to look up some space facts in their whopping great book of space. Dave and the penguins find out question marks and there's a shower on Planet Zoofaria.
Programme 4 Planning your writing
Star, Sky and Hutch go to Planet Astoria and hear the "Adventure in the Museum". Away on Planet Antarctica, Dave and the penguins demonstrate apostrophes and, on Planet Zoofaria, the hairy bears have a problem with a homeless hare.

Star, Sky and Hutch set off in the Starship on missions to solve mathematical problems such as whether Captain Calamity has finally managed to free the princess, or if Dave has measured all the penguins. These programmes clarify and develop specific aspects of mathematics such as place value, calculations, data handling, shape and measures.
Programme 1 Place value
Star, Sky and Hutch are off on another mission to find out about place value. Captain Calamity sets off to free the lovely Princess Amber - but what will he have to do? Wendy has a problem when it's stock-taking day in the jungle and Dave observes the penguins playing on a grid of sticks.
Programme 2 Calculations
Star and Hutch have some serious shoe-counting to do, Dave watches the penguins performing some balancing tricks on an ice-berg, and Captain Calamity has a box with a very strange feature . . .
Programme 3 Data handling
Sky tells Star and Hutch that the Starship is overloaded with biscuits, and they will have to be sorted out. Captain Calamity sets off to slay a dragon and, over on Zoofaria, Gordon the crow has a problem with re-stocking the bird table.
Programme 4 Shape, space and measure
Hutch has lost something, and tries to describe it to Star. They bake a cake and Sky shows them a trick with symmetry. Captain Calamity sets off to free Princess Amber by following a treasure map, while on Planet Zoofaria, the bison are getting restless.

Hutch plans a trip to planet 'Mathematica Major' but there are many problems to be solved along the way.
You can print out the Activity Sheets which you do while listening to the Maths radio programmes.
Maths 1 Place, value, odd and even numbers
In this programme Hutch first notices that he's not alone. He hears the Maths Monster snoring. But Hutch can't find out where the snorer is and tries to use his computer to help. But the Maths Monster has taken over the system and the Back-Up Team are asked to help by answering questions on place value, and odd and even numbers.
Maths 2 Mental calculation
Hutch has used the Galaxy Space Telescope to find the location of the Maths Monster. He is attached to the outside of Starship KS1 in a space-pod. In an effort to attract the Maths Monster's attention he once more needs the help of his Back-Up Team. This time they answer questions on mental calculation: addition and subtraction, doubling and halving,
Maths 3 Measure and problem-solving
Hutch is struggling to find a way to restore his life-support systems aboard Starship KS1, the result of the Math's Monster interference in KS1's space computer. Hutch calls on the Back-Up Team to help him by answering questions on measurement, money and time.
Maths 4 Shape and problem-solving
Hutch and the Maths Monster team up to defeat the Math's Muddler who is determined to spoil maths for everyone. The Back-Up Team are called upon to help again. This time they answer questions on the name of shapes, the number of vertices in different shapes, and calculations to do with the number of sides and measurement. Together they achieve their goal.
