Thirty Quirky Birds

Bertie Bird Thirty quirky birds all in a quirky nest
every one is wonderful
- but Bertie Bird’s the best!
The other birds are very bright
but Bertie Bird is brighter.
All are fit and fast and light
- Bert’s fitter, faster, lighter.

Thirty quirky birds all in a quirky nest
every one is wonderful
- but Bertie Bird’s the best!
The other birds are chirpy
and quite a few are perky
but Bert the Bird is chirpier and perkier than the rest.

Bertie Bird landing beak first.

Thirty quirky birds all in a quirky nest
though every one is wonderful
Bert’s certainly the best!
Sometimes Bert is nervous - for he’s no flying expert
he’ll swerve , then jerk, then hurtle
landing beak first in the dirt.
While the others swirl high overhead
Bert curls into a ball

“Do not disturb him yet,” they say. “He’s had another fall.”
“He’s hurt his beak again,” they say. “Go and get the nurse.
His beak is turning purple! It’s getting worse and worse!”

Bertie Bird riding a bicyle. When he’s feeling better - perhaps nibbling a worm
the way he slurps and burps and scoffs can make his mother squirm.
Bert’s father’s tried to teach his bird to fly like all the others
To be a perfect flyer like his sisters and his brothers.
The others twirl and turn in the sky. They flitter, flap and flutter but Bertie rides a bicycle
- cos Bert’s an utter nutter.
