The Star Ship television programmes, radio programmes, web based games and print and do sheets address the National Curriculum Programmes of Study for children working towards the end of Key Stage 1.
The programmes are designed to develop, reinforce and support the knowledge, skills and concepts that children who are working within the wide range of National Curriculum level 2 will be addressing in English and Maths.
The contexts introduced in the programmes are designed to stimulate and interest the children, while supporting the development of English and Mathematical understanding. Concepts and skills are explicitly addressed and used in a range of contexts.
The supporting materials draw on the topics covered in the TV programmes, although each of the games and activities can be used independently.
The TV programmes, accompanying web games, materials and radio broadcasts could be used in a variety of ways in the classroom or at home: E.g.
- use the TV programme as a starting point which can then be developed and extended in the classroom using web games and print and do sheets to support learning;
- use the web games or print and do sheets to support specific ideas introduced in other contexts;
- listen to the radio programme to revise and reinforce concepts previously introduced;
- create and play games based on the contexts and concepts introduced in the programmes.
The Teachers notes available on the website give further suggestions and ideas for developing specific aspects in the classroom.
