INTRODUCTION
Starship Maths - Radio is a series of four, fifteen minute programmes which aim to:
  • foster Maths skills at Key Stage 1
  • help year 2 pupils to prepare for the end of Key Stage 1 National Tests.
Whilst the radio series uses the context and two of the main characters from the Starship TV series, the radio programmes are a stand-alone resource.

Each programme includes several maths activities - a printable activity sheet for each programme can be found on this website. There are set times for the activities within the programme but an adult can extend the time given for each activity by pausing the programme. It is best if an adult uses the tape with the children to check for correct use of the activity sheets and understanding of the task

Where can I hear the programmes?
The Maths programmes can either be recorded off air on Radio 3 in the middle of the night from 03.00-03.30 on Friday 31st Jan and Friday 7th Feb ( 2 x 15'00 progs in each slot) or tapes can be purchased from BBC Education 0870 830 8000

Hutch helps his Back-Up Team (the listeners) to fulfil a series of maths tasks so that they can get back control of the spaceship. The Maths Monster turns out to be a friend.
