Homepage
Designed for 7 - 11 year olds, this website offers interactive online
activities and printable resources which teach spelling strategies,
rules and patterns for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.
The site can be used as a stand-alone resource or as a complement
to the BBC "Spell it Out" and "Spelling with the Spellits"
television series and
Activity Books.
Interactive learning
Learning to spell is a complex process and involves marshalling information
from a range of sensory inputs - visual, auditory, articulatory and
kinaesthetic and processing this information using analogy, rules,
patterns and memory tricks. The games and activities on this site
are presented by the Spellits TV characters Eyes, Ears and Brain and
both teach and give opportunities for the children to practise various
spelling strategies and rules.
Making learning fun
The spelling activities are integrated into 3 games,
making learning fun and providing motivation for the children to complete
all the activities. Once in the site, the children should be able
to work independently through the activities as there are support
functions built into the games. The children may find it more fun
to work in pairs, especially when an activity requires them to say
some of the words aloud.
All the spelling activities are provided in printable form as well as
in flash. (see non-flash
site)
