The Rivers and Coasts website caters for study across all national curricula at Key Stage 2 and the 5-14 Scottish curriculum guidelines.
The site provides interactive maps, diagrams, photographs and fact files which can be used to further children’s geographical and enquiry skills as they explore the physical features of Rivers and Coasts, the impact they have on human life and the environmental issues surrounding them.
There are also printable activity sheets, which can be used either in conjunction with the website or as extension activities in the classroom.
Please note this site has been devised to allow a linear route to be followed through either the Rivers section or the Coasts section. Once a section has been selected provision is made for navigation within that section alone. However, it is possible to select a topic from either section for study in isolation from the index page. The water cycle and What happens when rivers meet the coast? share content, as both topics are relevant to the study of either rivers or coasts, but each is accessible in the linear route through each section.
Download time
In an attempt to keep download time to a minimum, much of the photographic content for the website is contained within the glossaries. The photographs will not be displayed unless the glossary word marked in blue is selected.
Betsie
The site can be used in a text-only version and in this way is accessible to children with visual impairment. Select the text-only link in the top left-hand corner of the web pages.

Sounds of rivers and waves are included for effect on the Flash animations. To see and hear these you will require the Flash Player. If you do not have this, instructions for downloading the free Flash Player plugin can be found at the BBC Webwise guide to plugins.
