Talia's monologue: 'Blowing bulbs'
- This monologue is best used with the main storyline and as part of wider work on bullying rather than in isolation. It provides the opportunity to consider the feelings of the bully and why they behave as they do. However, when exploring reasons for bullying it is essential that they are never seen as an excuse and that it is stressed all forms of bullying are completely unacceptable.
- Students could review the school's anti-bullying policy to make sure that victims of bullying in their own community are fully supported and/or produce an advice leaflet for younger students outlining the school's policy and explaining what to do if they experience or observe bullying.
- It is important that her references to being in care do not give the impression that all young people in care either bully or experience bullying and please be aware that some students may have experience of the care system but may not want this to be known.
