Mount Everest is the highest mountain above sea level. It is in the Himalayas in Asia. But it isn't the furthest point from the centre of the earth. That's the peak of Mount Chimborazo in the Andes in Ecuador. This is because Chimborazo is nearer the equator than Everest, and the earth is wider around the equator. The high parts of the Andes mountains are cold and snow-covered, and people there often wear thick ponchos and hats to keep warm.
