DID YOU KNOW .... Some of los días de la semana (the days of the week) are named after planets and gods? For example, Monday is named after the moon in English and in Spanish – lunes (la luna is 'the moon'). Martes (Tuesday) is named after Marte – Mars.

Did you notice that the days of the week don’t have capital letters in Spanish?

Interesting fact! Una semana (a week) is seven days just like it is here, but a fortnight in Spanish is quince días which actually means 15 days!

Spanish people have a week like people in the UK, working and going to school through la semana (the week) and having time off at el fin de semana (the weekend).

Because they have a long lunchtime in Spain, la mañana (the morning) lasts from about 9am - 2pm and la tarde (the afternoon) carries on into what we might call evening, until about 8pm. La noche (the night) doesn’t start until very late!

La mañana is 'the morning' but mañana means 'tomorrow'. So mañana por la mañana means 'tomorrow morning'!
