Describing people
Remember how to say 'my name is ...'? wǒ de míng zì shì / 我 的 名 字 是 To introduce other people you say:
tā de míng zì shì ... / 他 的 名 字 是 - His name is ...
tā de míng zì shì ... / 她 的 名 字 是 - Her name is ...
When you describe people, you use ADJECTIVES. In Mandarin, there are two ways of saying 'he is' and 'she is'. When you use adjectives, you say tā hěn / 他 很 (he is) and tā hěn / 她 很 (she is).
tā hěn ... / 他 很 - He is ...
tā hěn ... / 她 很 - She is ...
... gāo / 高 - ... tall
... ǎi / 矮 - ... short
To say what colour hair someone has, you use tā yǒu ... / 他 有 (he has ...) and tā yǒu... / 她 有 (she has ... ):
tā yǒu... / 他 有 - He has ...
tā yǒu... / 她 有 - She has ...
... jīn sè de ... / 金 色 的 - ... blond ...
... zōng sè de ... / 棕 色 的 - ... brown ...
... hēi sè de ... / 黑 色 的 - ... black ...
... hóng hè sè de ... / 红 褐 色 的 - ... auburn ...
... tóu fà / 头 发 - ... hair
You also use tā yǒu ... / 他 有 (he has ...) and tā yǒu... / 她 有 (she has ... ) to talk about eye colour:
... lán sè de ... / 蓝 色 的 - ... blue ...
... lǜ sè de ... / 绿 色 的 - ... green ...
... zōng sè de ... / 棕 色 的 - ... brown ...
... yǎn jīng / 眼 睛 - ... eyes
