How do you get to school?

Je vais à l'école en voiture. - I go to school by car.

You might also go:

en bus - by bus

à vélo - on a bicycle

à pied - on foot

You might want to describe your journey to school to someone:

Quand je vais à l'école… - When I go to school…

je passe… - I pass…

devant... - in front of...

You might pass...

un magasin - a shop

une poste - a post office

une église - a church

un café - a café

If your school is in the middle of town, you might pass:

un musée - a museum

une gare - a station

une banque - a bank

un passage pour piétons - a pedestrian crossing

Or you might be lucky enough to pass une rivière:

une rivière - a river

If you're giving someone instructions of how to get to your school, you might find these phrases useful:

cinq minutes plus tard - five minutes later

enfin - finally

Je tourne - I turn

à droite - (to/on the) right

à gauche - (to/on the) left

Je vais - I go / follow

tout droit - straight ahead

So for example:

Quand je vais à l'école, je passe devant une église et une banque. - When I go to school, I go past a church and a bank.

Cinq minutes plus tard, je tourne à droite et enfin j'arrive à l'école. - Five minutes later I turn right and finally arrive at school.
