Healthy food

Please note: There is a short delay when playing the audio clips.

Watching what we eat is very important and healthy food is important in France too.

They eat lots of les fruits (fruit) and les légumes (vegetables).

les fruits - fruit

les légumes - vegetables

une pomme - an apple

une banane - a banana

une tomate - a tomato

une laitue - a lettuce

un concombre - a cucumber

une salade - a salad

To talk about healthy food, you can use the phrases:

C'est bon pour la santé. - It's good for your health.

C'est mauvais pour la santé. - It's bad for your health.

For example:

Un concombre est bon pour la santé. - Cucumber is good for your health.

Le chocolat est mauvais pour la santé. - Chocolate is bad for your health.

Bon and mauvais are ADJECTIVES. That means that they change depending on what they are describing.

With a feminine noun they become bonne and mauvaise:

Une pomme est bonne pour la santé. - An apple is good for your health.

Une glace à la vanille est mauvaise pour la santé. - A vanilla ice-cream is bad for your health.

With plural nouns, bon becomes bons and bonne becomes bonnes. Mauvais stays the same but mauvaise becomes mauvaises.

AND you have to change est (is) to sont (are):

Les tomates sont bonnes pour la santé. - Tomatoes are good for your health.

Les frites sont mauvaises pour la santé. - Chips are bad for your health.
