Fractions

Converting a fraction to a decimal
To convert a fraction to a decimal divide the numerator (top number) by the denominator (bottom number).

E.g. 3/5 is 3 ÷ 5 = 0.6

Converting a fraction to a percentage
To convert a fraction to a percentage, first change the fraction to a decimal (as above), and multiply by 100.

E.g. 3/5 = 0.6 = 0.6 x 100% = 60%

Decimals

Converting a decimal to a percentage
To convert a decimal or a whole number to a percentage multiply by 100.

E.g. 0.37 = 0.37 x 100 = 37%

Converting a decimal to a fraction
To convert a decimal to a fraction, first work out the place value of the last digit, then write the number (without a decimal point) as a fraction of the place value and cancel it down.

E.g. 0.075
The last digit is in the 'thousandths' column, so 0.075 = 75/1000 = 3/40.

E.g. 3.5
The last digit is in the 'tenths' column, so 3.5 = 35/10 = 7/2 = 3 .

Percentages

Converting a percentage to a decimal
To convert a percentage to a decimal divide by 100.

E.g. 57% = 57 ÷ 100 = 0.57

Converting a percentage to a fraction
To convert a percentage to a fraction first divide by 100 to change the percentage into a decimal. Then change the decimal to a fraction (see 'Converting a decimal to a fraction').

E.g. 57% = 0.57 = 57/100
