About the tests

What about the Maths SATs?

The Maths SATs test you on four different areas: Using and Applying Mathematics; Number and Algebra; Shape, Space and Measure and Data Handling. You will be asked to demonstrate your knowledge in these areas, as well as your skill in applying that knowledge to different problems. Your Teacher Assessed level will be based on your achievements in class.

In Maths you will sit particular papers, depending on the level you are working at. These are: Levels 3-5, 4-6, 5-7 and 6-8.

The Maths test is divided into THREE parts: Papers 1 and 2 and the Mental maths test. You are allowed to use a calculator to help you with Paper 2, but calculators are not allowed in the other exams.

How do I revise for Maths?

Maths and Science are similar in that you need to understand and use certain facts, concepts and vocabulary which you will have learnt in class. You will need to revise these to make sure you really know them and are able to use them with confidence. The Maths section of this website will help you to do this. It will also help you to practise APPLYING that knowledge to different problems. Just like in English, practice makes perfect.
