3D shapes - Names of solids

You should know the names of all the solids below.

3D solids: Sphere, cube, cuboid, cylinder, hexagonal prism, cone, square-based pyramid, triangular-based pyramid and triangular prism

Prisms and pyramids

A prism is a 3D shape which has a constant cross section - both ends of the solid are the same shape and anywhere you cut parallel to these ends gives you the same shape too.

a hexagonal prism, the ends are hexagon shapes with straight edges
a hexagon

A pyramid has sloping sides that meet at a point.

A pyramid with a base with 4 sides
a pyramid with a base with 3 sides
