Argue, persuade, advise

So far, you should feel happy about:
  • The type of questions you'll get and how to prepare to answer them.
  • How to structure and paragraph your answer.
  • How to write interesting sentences.
  • How to improve your overall style.

In the next four revision sections, we'll be looking in detail at the two texts you will be asked to write. Each text will fall under one of these broad categories:
  • inform/explain/describe
  • argue/persuade/advise
  • explore/imagine/entertain
  • analyse/review/comment
We are using these four groups because it is a helpful way to look at writing and because the examiners have this system. However, it is only a guide to different types of writing. So in the exam, concentrate on answering the questions you actually get, and don't worry about what groups they might fit into.

In this Revision Bite, you will look at writing to argue, persuade and advise.
