Character


Characters are important in almost every piece of fictional, biographical and autobiographical writing.

Your teacher may ask you to explain what you learn about, or analyse a character featured in an extract. To do well in this, you will need to look at what the writer tells you straightforwardly and what can be read between the lines. In technical terms, these are the explicit and implicit meanings.
