Explain your opinions and give examples

There could be many reasons you don’t like a piece of writing, it may:

  • not do what it is supposed to
  • be hard to read
  • be dull
  • give the right information but in the wrong order
  • be funny when it should be serious

There could be just as many reasons why you may like it.

Always think about exactly why you do or don’t like a piece of writing, and then explain why in clear, simple English.

Give examples

After you've explained your opinions, give short examples from the piece of writing. This shows readers how you formed your opinions. Try to give at least one example for every point you are making.
