Improvised dance

Club dance steps

There are many different styles of club dance music and many different dance steps. Dances are improvised with the dancers facing the DJ. Clubs are often crowded, so dances tend to take place on the spot. Movements follow the rhythms and riffs of the music.

Dances sometimes emphasise fast and complex footwork combined with fluid movements in the torso. Arms are usually held in front and movements are fluid and sometimes elaborate. Glowsticks and LEDs creating light shows (eg tracing a figure of eight) are associated with raves and techno music.
