More than one inequality - Higher

Make sure that you are familiar with Solving equations before trying this Revision Bite.

More than one inequality

Example

If s is an integer, what values of s satisfy the inequalities -1 less than or equal to s < 6 and s > 0?

If -1 less than or equal to s < 6, then s = -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

If s > 0, then s = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7…

The only values of s that satisfy both of these inequalities are 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. So the solution is:

1 less than or equal to s less than or equal to 5
