This Revision Bite will help you to identify and use a variety of tenses in your Speaking Controlled Assessment.

Example: use of tenses

It is important to vary tenses in your Controlled Assessment if you are aiming for a grade C or above.

Listen to Olaf. Note how he uses different tenses when talking about the same topic. Try to spot when Olaf uses:

  • The perfect tense (5 times)
  • Future tense (once)
  • Conditional (once)
  • Infinitive with 'um ... zu' (once)
