Exam tips

  1. Remember, when the questions are in German you will be expected to answer in German.
  2. Don't get frightened by the mass of German involved. The questions themselves will usually be in very simple language.
  3. Make sure you understand the questions, by breaking them down into manageable pieces, and looking for keywords.
    • The questions will have keywords in them that are specifically connected to a certain part of the text. For example, in the first question above - wie viel kostet ein Glas Wein in der Kneipe? - Kneipe is the main keyword. The next keywords in the question are kostet and Glas Wein.
    • You can now pick out which section is being referred to, and answer the question.
    • The same can be done for the next question - Wo kann man Salat essen? Essen is the keyword. The only possible association is the restaurant. Salat is also a keyword, which could help you find the right text to answer the question.
  4. Don't worry too much about spelling (although of course it's good if it's right) - here you are being tested only on your understanding of the text and the question. The answer simply needs to be lifted out of the text!
