Preparation

So, you know the context and you've thought carefully about the plot, characters and themes of the story - now it's time to think about how you might use all these ideas in the exam!

Question

At the start of the novel, we are told:

"Ralph and Jack smiled at each other with shy liking"

Yet by the end, they are mortal enemies. What happens to ruin their friendship?

Remember, you are advised to spend 45 minutes on this part of the paper, so divide your time up like this:
