
To understand a work of art or a beautiful object, you need to know about its basic visual elements
The visual elements [visual elements: The individual parts or elements that make up a piece of art, craft or design such as: line; tone; colour; shape; form; pattern; space; and texture. ] include line [line: A visual element. Line can be an outline, sketch, doodle or hatching. ], tone [tone: The mood or manner of a text or part of a text. The author's 'tone of voice' or way in which they expect to be understood. The emotional load carried by a text. ], colour [colour: A visual element. Red, blue and yellow are the primary colours from which all other colours can be made. Black and white aren't strictly considered to be colours. ], shape [shape: A visual element. Shape is the visual appearance of something. ], formform: A style of poem, with a particular pattern of rhythm, rhyme pattern or regular line length (eg sonnet, couplets or ballad)., pattern [pattern: A visual element. Pattern is a repeating artistic or decorative design. ], space [space: A visual element. Depth and distance helps create the idea of space. ] and texture [texture: A visual element. Texture is the way surfaces look and feel. ]. All art and design work will use several of these basic elements.
