Objectives: Design for a medal which you are going to present to George Stephenson to celebrate his achievements, by selecting one or two pictures from his online story. Decide on words to write around the outside of the medal.
National Curriculum: Describe what they have learned about George Stephenson; recall some details about the life of George Stehpenson; identify some of the effects of the life of George Stephenson. Ask and answer questions about George Stehpenson.
Resources required: Pictures selected by the children and printed from the story of George Stehpenson on the site; a medal to use as a demonstration; a medal template for the children to use if they wish.
Teaching Activities: Introduction: How might we reward a person who had done something important? How might we commemorate their achievements? What are the achievements of George Stehpenson? Show children a medal. Look at the design.

Plenary: Compare medals made by children. Why is it important to remember George Stehpenson? What other things could people do to ensure that George Stehpenson is not forgotten?
