The Pocahontas Game

Game 1 (What does not belong game)
After introducing children to Pocahontas, this self-corrective game allows children to move from the present to the time of Pocahontas when she lived in America, before she came to England.
It will develop the following historical skills:
  • Use of words such as 'now', 'then', 'long time ago';
  • Recognise objects associated with a time in the past, and in another part of the world;
  • Recognise some differences between the past and today e.g. collecting corn by hand 'then' and use of a tractor 'now';
  • Observe objects to find out about the time of Pocahontas;
  • Ask and answer questions when comparing 'now' and 'then'.
This applies to both html (non-flash) and flash sites.

Game 2 (Quiz)
Children do this quiz after they have heard the story of Pocahontas.
The game reinforces the story.

It will develop the following historical skills:
  • Recall some details of a story;
  • Sequence aspects of the life of Pocahontas;
  • Use of language such as 'before' and 'after';
  • Introduction to a representation of the story;
  • Know that Pocahontas can be represented in different ways;
  • Use visual and oral sources to find out about Pocahontas.
This only applies to the flash site only.
