The Christopher Columbus Game


After introducing children to Christopher Columbus, children explore the learning area to find out some information about his life from pictures and oral sources.
It will develop the following historical skills:
  • Use visual and oral sources to find out about a famous person;
  • Use of language such as 'a long time ago', 'before', 'after';
  • Sequence aspects of the life of Christopher Columbus.

Game 1 (quiz)
This self-corrective game asks children to do a number of things including the identification, from a choice of four, of the one object which Columbus might have used. This object was seen in the learning area.
There are four questions and on completion of them all children see several paintings of Columbus.

It will develop the following historical skills:
  • Observe pictures of objects;
  • Use of words such as 'now', 'then', 'a long time ago';
  • Recognise objects associated with a time in the past;
  • Recall some details about the life of Christopher Columbus and his voyage in 1492;
  • Observe different representations of Christopher Columbus;
  • Describe different representations of Christopher Columbus.
This applies to both html (non-flash) and flash sites.


Game 2 (Push off pirates!)
This self-corrective quiz will develop the following historical skills:
  • Recall some details about Christopher Columbus.
This only applies to the flash site only.
