Introduction |

Ask pupils to imagine they have arrived on another planet.
Ask individuals to describe / draw the planet surface.
Ask, 'If you could carry out one experiment or investigation on this planet, what would you do and why?'.
List pupils’ contributions. Tell pupils they are going to follow Digger and the Gang into space in an online adventure that will require them to solve a number of different problems by using their scientific knowledge.

What other facts do you know about the solar system?
Sprat and the Gang use a mirror to signal for help. If they didn’t have a mirror, what else could they use to send a signal?
Away from the computer, pupils could use a range of information sources to identify and sketch plants that would be found in a rainforest.

Pupils write a short story about Digger and the Gang with the title, 'Deep space crisis'.
In this story, the Gang must solve a problem aboard their ship using their scientific knowledge of light, sound or magnets.
