How to use Maths
The Circus Adventure
The Circus Adventure covers the National Curriculum at: KS2 Mathematics, Number / Shape, Space and Measures levels 3 - 5.
National Numeracy Strategy: Numbers & Number System, Calculations, Measure.
Tell pupils that Digger and the Gang needs help to solve some maths puzzles during their online Circus Adventure.
Suggested questions for class discussion
When pupils are using the online activity, ask them to make a list of all the different quantities used (such as time, capacity, money, distance).
Away from the computer, challenge pupils to convert these quantities to smaller/larger units of measure, e.g. how many grammes are there in 17 kilos?
Which number operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) should we use to tackle this number problem?
What are the key numbers in this problem?
Is there another way of working out the correct answer?
Before working out the solution to this number puzzle, what do you estimate the answer to be?
Extension Work
Pupils draw up an inches / centimetres conversion chart.
