Who can't vote in Parliamentary elections?

  • Members of the House of Lords. This includes life peers, Church of England archbishops and bishops, and hereditary peers who have retained their seat in the House of Lords;

  • Those aged less that 18;

  • Citizens of other European Union countries (however they can vote in local government and European Parliamentary elections);

  • Citizens of any other country apart from Commonwealth countries and the Irish Republic;

  • Sentenced prisoners;

  • Those convicted within the previous five years of corrupt or illegal election practices;

  • People with mental disabilities who are incapable of making a reasoned judgement.
