Diversity Downlands Community School : Ghana

Our project has involved learning about different cultures in West Africa in a country called Ghana.

"A group of us visited Ghana and since then we've been going around local primary schools passing on what we've learned to the younger kids. Listen to our interviews and find out how we all got involved."

Human rights Southfields Community College :
Amnesty International

We run a really active Amnesty group at our school and write letters to highlight human rights abuses all over the world.

"This matters to us because a lot of our pupils are refugees and about a quarter of us speak English as a second language. Listen to our interviews and find out how you could get involved in a group like ours."

Justice Diss High School : Fair Trade fashion show

We took part in a fashion show to raise awareness of Fair Trade issues. We designed our clothes from recycled materials and modelled them ourselves.

"It was really good fun doing the fashion show because we all got involved together. Listen to our interviews to hear how we got the project off the ground."

Generations Tanfield Comprehensive School :
Smoke alarms

Our "Alarming Project” involves installing alarms in the homes of elderly people in the community.

"We're getting to know some of the older people in our area, changing their opinion of young people and making them safer in their homes."

Environment Ullswater Community College :
Hospital sensory garden

We're a group of year 10s from Ullswater Community College and we got involved in creating a sensory "Forget-me-not Garden” at our local hospital.

"Our aim was to provide a place for hospital patients, staff and visitors to stop and take time out as well as giving the hospital's Alzheimer patients something to care for to keep them stimulated."

Drugs Archbishop Grimshaw School :
Schools CD and resource pack

We couldn"t believe we were being asked to do this project cause it's not usually us who gets asked to do things like that.

"We wrote songs and recorded a CD about what will happen to you if you take drugs. If you want to hear about how we made the CD and put together the drugs resource pack for other schools click on the audio clips below. Don't forget to check out our music CD!"

Crime Norlington School : Anti-mugging project

Up to six of our students were being mugged everyday so we decided to do something about it.

"Since we started our Norlington Enquiry Campaign to tackle the mugging problem things have really improved. Listen to the interviews with the group to hear how we did it!"

Bullying Eastlea Community College :
Bullying awareness film & website

Our "Teenage Anti-bullying Project” came about when Bobby, a Year 11 student at Eastlea College, applied for a M Power Millenium Award and secured over £6000.

"The project"s called "Teenage Project". It"s all about doing things to prevent bullying because we thought it was a really important issue that needed to be dealt with."
