GAMES

  What's Changed
This is a step up from the Out of Place game. A present day countryside scene is shown on screen. The user has to click on 5 items that are unlikely to have been in the scene a century ago. When the user clicks, the item and the surrounding area change to show how the landscape used to look. The end of the game shows how the scene has changed. There is an opportunity to print out the scenes.

Text level - There are 2 versions of the game. Both have audio to accompany the text while playing the game. An opening screen offers a choice of a version - 'without explanation' and 'with explanation'.
The version 'without explanation' gives praise when the user clicks on an item. The print out at the end shows both scenes on one A4 sheet of paper.
The version 'with explanation' gives praise and provides more information about how things have changed and encourages further observation. Then there is the opportunity to print out each scene on separate pieces of paper with a grid over the scene. This provides an extension task where the children can be asked for the grid reference of various items in the different scenes.
